Hi friends,
It is always fun to have a website of your own which you can show to your friends and boost of your skills. So, I decided to build my own website using WordPress. I further decided to write about the steps I followed to create the WordPress website in a series of posts to help you guys set up your own website.
To just give a brief introduction, WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. It is usually preferred by website owners because it does not require a lot of coding and is very user-friendly.
Although, there is WordPress.com as well which allows us to host our WP website so that is is published on the Internet for free but the free version of it does not provide a lot of features like installing additional plugins on our WP Website and so on. Here is an image taken from ShoutMeLoud which shows the differences between the WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

These flexibility of installing additional
plugins forced me to choose WordPress.org over the WordPress.com.
In this post, I'll tell you what all things we are going to learn in this series of posts on WordPress. Here is the list of important things we are going to learn through the following posts:
- Make the navigation menu of the website as one shown below
- Adding the background image with text inside it
- Adding various headings
- Adding links to other pages
- Embedding a video on the home page
- Adding images embedded with text
- Creating a photo gallery
- Adding a Contact Page
- Embedding Google Maps map to the website
- Adding links to your various social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
As already discussed, the WordPress.org does not support hosting the website. So, we need to install the local server to host our WP website. In the next post, we'll learn how to install a web server on our system and install the WP website on that local server.
